Chong Pang City is the first neighbourhood centre in Yishun New Town. Despite being about 40 years old, it has not lost its vibrancy. Besides all the neighbourhood stores here, it is definitely a good place for durian deals.

At the edge of Chong Pang city, there is a fruit stall facing Blk 108 Yishun Ave 5. They have small durians for $1 which they label as a species of durians affiliated to the family of the much raved Golden Phoenix. You can also find opened ones packed in boxes and even D13 durians at $5 each.

Been one of the 2 more popular durian stalls beside 7-Eleven, this stall has a good variety of durians. Be prepared for a price war at times between the 2 stalls facing each other. Reviews for their durians are mixed, so buy with caution.

This stall has probably the widest variety of durians in Chong Pang City. Reviews for their durians are mixed, so buy with caution. They do open most durians for you though. There are still many $2 durians when I left the place.

Near to the bus stop outside Khatib camp, there is a durian stall that is away from the heat of the action. The prices still seem decide and they hail from a popular durian chain’Durian Boy’. You can try your luck getting some durians here.

Alight at Yishun MRT station and go to bus stop facing Northpoint City. Board bus service 858 or 969 and alight after 2 stops.

It is hard not to know about Mr Coconut. There are constant long queues at many of their outlets that are available in many shopping centres.

A cup of its signature Coconut Shake leaves us refreshed on a hot day. There are 3 new Mr Coconut stores opening soon as spotted by friends of our page.

On B1 of AMK Hub located next to Ang Mo Kio MRT station, a Mr Coconut store will be opening in June 2021. It is located next to Starbucks.

In NEX located next to Serangoon MRT station, there is a Mr Coconut store opening on level 3. It is next to Hui Lau Shan.

A third new outlet is also opening at VivoCity on basement 2. This is next to a new KFC that will open soon too.

McDonald’s has secretly launched 2 new desserts and their new Happy Meal toys today. They can be found in their stores and via McDelivery.

6 egg products are being recalled by Fairprice due tk the presence of Salmonella Enteritidis in the eggs. Customers may return the product stamped with ‘CES008’ to the same store of purchase with their receipt for a full refund by 27 March 2021.
The affected egg products are as follows.

Singapore Food Agency (SFA) posted a notice on their Facebook page to announce the detection of Salmonella Enteritidis in eggs imported from Lay Hong Berhad Layer Farm Jeram in Malaysia. They advised cnsumers who have purchased the affected eggs are advised to cook them thoroughly before consumption. Those who have consumed the eggs and are unwell should seek medical attention.

A person infected with the Salmonella enteritidis bacterium usually has

-abdominal cramps
-diarrhea
​beginning 12 to 72 hours after consuming a contaminated food or beverage. The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most persons recover without antibiotic treatment.
However, in some extreme cases, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized. Salmonellainfection may spread from the intestines to the bloodstream and then to other body sites and can cause death unless the person is treated promptly with antibiotics.

To be honest, this tastes mala enough. The spicy level is just intermediate level and is not overpowering. This makes a quick fix anytime.

Nested in a quiet corner among landed houses lies a hidden food gem. EK Gourmet serves quality brunch at very affordable prices.

Even the lowest priced set, grilled ham & cheese sandwich with salad, is made with love. The sandwich is well grilled and the cheese comes melted. The salad comes with grilled sweet potato and definitely not just there to fill the plate. The set is only $5.50.

The egg set with bacons showcases the chef’s culinary skills with simple ingredients. The runny eggs remain runny. That is very important, ok?
The scrambled eggs are creamy and fluffy. The bacon is not oily and goes well with the well toasted bread.

I have never seen kurubuta (kurobuta) pork sausage sets for less than $10. Kurobuta pigs are also known as ‘black pigs’. I have not eaten much of them but one bite of the sausage reveals the difference. The meat is juicier and the texture is different from normal pork sausages.

The one item that caught my attention was the Wagyu beef sausage set. Of course, this cannot be the top grade Japanese wagyu. This Australian wagyu beef sausage tastes creamier than normal pork sausages and for only $8, I feel atas having this already.

For me, I took public transport there by alighting at Beauty World MRT station and got out from Exit C. Taking a very short walk to the bus stop, take either bus 43 and 173 and alight at the same bus stop. Walk along Toh Tuck Terrace and turn right to Toh Tuck Terrace. Walk straight and you can see it shortly.
